Giant Kendal - Castle Sportive - Free Social Ride

June 18, 2017

Lowther, Penrith: CA10 2HH

Thank you for your interest in the Giant Kendal – Castle Sportive, which was due to be held on Sunday 18th June, unfortunately after much consideration we had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the event.  We would like to thank those that entered for their support and sincerely apologise for the cancellation and any inconvenience and disappointment this causes.

We have not taken this decision likely, however, entries have been lower than anticipated and did not reach the minimum numbers required for us to deliver the high quality event we had planned, and therefore we are reluctant to run an event with reduced standards that would not meet your or our expectations.

Although we are unable to hold the official Giant Kendal – Castle Sportive, we would like to invite you to ride the route with us this Sunday 18th June.  This is a free group ride and everyone is invited, whether you previously entered the event or not.  This will be an informal, social group ride led by the Giant Kendal team for those that still want to enjoy this stunning route around quiet Cumbrian lanes with a cuppa and cake in the Lowther Castle café at the end.

If you are interested in joining us on Sunday, please register your interest, or email with any questions, to events@giant-kendal.co.uk

Details below:

Start and finish is from Lowther Castle, Penrith

Complete route is approximately 58 miles long with 5118ft of ascent, the shorter route is 29 miles.

The route is a figure of eight loop which passes back through Lowther Castle after 29 miles (this gives the option for people to finish the ride here if they do not wish to complete the full 58 mile route).

There will be various groups, depending on numbers, to allow for different riding speeds; from fast (approx. average between 18-20mph) to a more sociable pace (approx. average of between 12-14mph).

You can choose to either ride in a group, which will have a route leader from the Giant Kendal team, or if you prefer, ride the route on your own at your own pace.

As these are group rides, rather than a paid for entry event, there is no official requirement for a registration procedure.  However, to help us keep track of numbers and distribute cake vouchers, we ask that you simply ‘sign in’ on a registration form.  Sign in will be from 8am – 8.30am at Lowther Castle.

The first ride group will leave Lowther Castle at 8.40am, with subsequent groups leaving at 5 minute intervals afterwards.

Those wishing to ride on their own can leave once registered from 8.15am.
